Amazon Will Stream Premier League Games on Twitch in an Effort to Promote Shared Viewing

With the coronavirus still at large, most sports have resumed without spectators. However, in an effort to keep the viewing experience interactive, different leagues have implemented unprecedented technologies and Amazon will be doing the same for the Premier League. According to Deadline, the e-commerce giant will stream live Premier League games for free on Twitch in the UK in an effort to keep soccer fans engaged during the game.

Amazon is banking on Twitch’s chat feature, which allows game watchers to “behave like pundits” and share their perspectives on the match in real time. This will also mark the first time Twitch is used to stream the Premier League since Amazon bought it back in 2014.

Amazon is also working with the gaming company EA Sports to give viewers the opportunity to watch games with synthetic crowd noises, Deadline revealed. The technology has been dubbed Stadium Atmosphere.

Gabby Logan will present pitch-side coverage, and she will be joined by pundits, including Roberto Martinez and Lee Dixon. Clive Tyldesley, Jon Champion, Peter Drury and Ally McCoist will provide commentary, Deadline reports.

News that Amazon had snagged rights to live stream four English Premier League for free in the UK when the season resumed broke earlier this month. As an added bonus, the company is making the games available to everyone, so fans don’t need to be Prime Video members in order to watch.

Amazon first began its partnership with the English Premier League last year and broadcast two games in the UK over this past Christmas season. In the UK, matches will be broadcast across Sky, BT Sport, the BBC and Amazon and air on NBC, CNBC and NBCSN in the U.S.
