Studios File Anti-Piracy Lawsuit Against Omniverse which Powers HDHomeRun Premium, Flixon, & Skystream TV Streaming Services

Over the past few months there have been a number of streaming services offering the same bundle of channels — including ESPN, HGTV, FX, and CNN — for $35. Some of them include SkyStream TV, HD HomeRun Premium TV, VivaLive TV, TikiLive TV, NKT.TV, Flixon TV, and Milo TV. All of these companies had partnered with a Kansas City-based company called Omniverse One World Television to license the live content.

Now, the major studios including Paramount, Disney, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Universal claim Omniverse is “illegally streaming copyrighted content.” In a statement to The Streamable, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) shared:

“Omniverse’s illegal services, and the downstream ‘Powered by Omniverse’ entities, undermine the legitimate market for legal and licensed services, a harm that has grown as Omniverse has expanded. This action is part of a long-term effort to protect the thriving legal marketplace for creative content, which now offers 140 legal online services for film and TV content in the United States, and more than 460 around the world.”

ACE is a global coalition dedicated to protecting creative content from most major content companies including Amazon, AMC, CBS, HBO, Hulu, MGM, NBC, 20th Century Fox, Netflix, and Warner Bros.

In a discussion with TechHive, one of Omniverse’s partners, SkyStream TV, was told Omniverse “acquired the rights for internet-based TV service through a years-old cable contract. Flixon, which itself offers nearly identical service to SkyStream, acted as a ‘master reseller’ for that content.”

For now, the studios have decided to file the civil suit against Omniverse One World Television and its owner Jason Demeo, but downstream partners, while mentioned in the complaint, have not been included in the litigation. A full copy of the complaint can be found here.
