CW Announces Launch of New Linear Channel, CW Seed Live, To Launch in The Fall

According to a report by Deadline, The CW is adding a live, ad-supported linear extension of its digital network, CW Seed, with PeopleTV on board as launch partner. CW Seed Live builds on the original purpose for Seed—to house web series with broadcast potential.

Early shows in CW included Husbands and PET Squad and this summer, Seed projects Two Sentence Horror Stories and Mysteries Decoded will premiere on the CW TV Network, Deadline reports.

With nostalgia for old TV shows becoming a trend, the CW Seed also became an on-demand repository of past series. It now hosts 45 titles, nearly 1,400 episodes and about 1,000 total hours of programming on its free, ad supported platform. The library includes I Ship It and Warner Bros. Animation/Blue Ribbon Content’s Constantine: City of Demons, based on the DC characters, as well as Alcatraz, Everybody Hates Chris, Forever, The L.A. Complex, Pushing Daisies and The Secret Circle.

CW Seed Live will be available in late fall of 2019 on CWSeed.com and the CW Seed app. The app can be found on Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, iOS, Android, Xbox, Chromecast and Android TV. PeopleTV draws from material in Meredith’s People and Entertainment Weekly media brands. PeopleTV programming will feature original series and specials, which will encompass celebrity and entertainment news, pop culture, lifestyle and human-interest genres. The original content includes: behind-the-scenes access into magazine cover stories and interviews, with PEOPLE Cover Story and Couch Surfing, popular cast reunions with Entertainment Weekly
Cast Reunions
and daily news programming with deep access and analysis with shows such as PEOPLE Now
and Reality Check.

CW Seed, which has 7.5 million app downloads — represents about 20 percent of total digital viewing and ad revenue for the CW.
