Rich Warren, president of WarnerMedia Distribution, stated: “The availability of HBO Max across Android, Android TV, Chromebook and Google Chromecast devices and on Google Play adds to our growing list of distribution options that will be offered to customers at launch.”
HBO Now subscribers billed through Google Play will get an automatic free upgrade to the HBO Max app. So will certain AT&T customers, if they subscribe to specific tiers.
Previously, WarnerMedia struck a distribution deal with Apple, bringing the streaming service to Apple users at launch. It also signed a distribution deal with YouTube TV in February.
This week, the streaming service acquired the worldwide rights to Seth Rogen and Point Grey Pictures’ “An American Pickle,” though no debut date has been announced. HBO Max is also adapting CNN anchor Jake Tapper’s bestselling political thriller “The Hellfire Club.”
