HBO Max had planned to kick off its debut with a “Friends” reunion. COVID-19 fears canceled that expectation.
But as the country begins to emerge from lockdown and some productions resume, the reunion is reportedly back on schedule. The super-popular NBC show, which ran for 10 seasons, has legions of global fans.
“We are hoping to be able to shoot in August, if all is well and there is no early second wave and the studio is open,” Marta Kauffman, who created the hit sitcom along with David Crane tells The Wrap.
The original cast — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry — are onboard for the unscripted show.
Kauffman promises it won’t feel like a mini-documentary, but will include new material.
The plan is to gather at Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank, where the original 236 episodes of the hit were shot.
Kudrow currently stars in “Space Force” on Netflix. She and Aniston took to Twitter to reminisce about the show.
