Israel Adesanya will be defending his middleweight title for the first time during Saturday’s match. The 30-year-old fighter comes into the ring with renowned charisma, quick-wit and expectations to be the next big thing since Connor McGregor.
On the other hand, Romero is reputed to be so dangerous he “makes his opponents different people after facing him,” according to CBS Sports. Though he is 42-years-old, with less-than-impressive record lately — he lost three of his last four fights — Romero is still dangerous in the ring. “Former champion Robert Whittaker was never the same in terms of health after going 10 rounds against Romero over a two-year span,” CBS Sports said. CNET reports that “Whittaker broke multiple bones punching and kicking him,” and quotes former opponent, Luke Rockhold, as stating “that man is made of steel.”
Saturday’s fight is a huge risk for Adesanya, who made it a point to secure the fight with Romero. However, if he comes out victorious he secures his name as a top contender in the sport.
UFC 248 early prelims start at 6:15 p.m ET while the prelims start at 8 p.m. ET.
