Peacock’s Free Tier Easily Beats Its Paid Version in Streaming Activity

Peacock’s free tier has activated far more viewers in its first two weeks of national streaming than its rivals’ subscription launches, according to Reelgood, reports Morning Consult.

But Peacock’s free version also surpasses its premium tier, which also fell behind other SVOD competitors. (All streaming is recorded via’s Reelgood’s iOS app, which carries all the major streamers and 150-plus others.)

Peacock Free generated 8.8 times more activity than Peacock Premium from July 17-30, among Reelgood viewers. Conversely, Disney+ in its first two weeks saw seven-times the activity on Peacock Premium and Apple TV+ was 1.5 times higher in the same time period.

However, HBO Max and Peacock Free were fairly equal in activity. Almost all Peacock streaming in the last two weeks of July happened on the free tier.

(All the SVODs offered a free seven-day trial period.)

About 90 percent of streaming on Peacock from July 17-30 took place on the service’s free tier.

Peacock has three plans: Free, which offers users 93 percent of the TV shows and 92 percent of the movies available on Premium with ads; a $4.99-a-month Premium plan, which includes Peacock’s full content library with ads; and the $9.99-a-month Premium Plus plan, which features all content ad-free.

The Free tier offers users 672 movies and 249 TV shows, while Premium subscribers have access to 730 movies and 269 TV shows.

Peacock launched nationally July 15, with a limited launch on April 15 for some Comcast customers. It currently claims 10 million users.
