‘Stargirl’ to Debut on Disney Plus on March 13, Stars Singer Grace VanderWaal

Disney+ is streaming the original movie “Stargirl,” based on Jerry Spinelli’s acclaimed YA novel, on March 13.

The coming-of-age story revolves around Leo (Graham Verchere), an average guy who plays in the marching band and is barely noticed by his peers. Then he becomes drawn to 10th grader Stargirl (singer/songwriter Grace VanderWaal), a charming, offbeat girl who plays the ukulele and is noted for her colorful personality.

But standing out in the crowd isn’t easy, even when you are kind and considerate. Stargirl, who has a magical personality all her own, finds her singularity can be costly. She is both mocked and accepted by her classmates — which sends ordinary Leo on a wide emotional ride.

“Stargirl” explores issues of conformity and nonconformity in teenagers, as well as the joy of first love.
Directed by Julia Hart (“Miss Stevens,” “Fast Colors”), the “Stargirl” screenplay is by Hart, Kristin Hahn and Jordan Horowitz, who produced the Oscar-winning “La La Land.”

Disney+ streams movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more.
