About the 2024 AFC Championship Game:

This year, the Cincinnati Bengals face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. The two teams met at the last AFC Championship game as well, with Cincinnati winning by just a field goal in overtime. This will be the fourth time the teams have met since the start of 2022, with Cincinnati beating Kansas City by a field goal each time.

The game will begin with four T-38 jets flying over the stadium from Whiteman Air Force base and Navy veteran General Wilson will sing the National Anthem while the Kansas City Fire Department will present the colors. The AFC Championship Halftime Show will be performed by Fat Joe, an American Rapper known for “All the way up,” “What’s love?” and “Lean back.”

As for announcers, The CBS crew for the game will feature play-by-plays by Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will serve as color commentator. Tracy Wolfson and Jay Feely will report from the sidelines while Gene Steratore will serve as the rules analyst.

The game will air on CBS at 6:30 PM EST. You can stream CBS through a live tv streaming provider or directly from Paramount+.

AFC Championship History

After the merger between the NFL and the American Football League in 1970, the first American Football Conference (AFC) championship game was played after the regular season. It is considered the successor of the AFL championship game and, since 1984, has concluded with the Lamar Hunt Trophy – named after AFL and the Kansas City Chiefs founder – presented to the winner.

The Chiefs have been to every AFC Championship game since 2018 and all current AFC team has found their way to the championships at least once since the merger. (Well, almost all. The Houston Texans haven’t.) Besides the current Kansas City streak, the New England Patriots have had the most in a row between 2011 and 2018 (and have won the most AFC championships) and the Pittsburgh Stealers hold the record for the most appearances.

How Many People Watch the AFC Championship Game?

In the last ten years, the most viewers tuned in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs against the New England Patriots during the 2018-19 season. While it is unknown how many people will tune into it this year, viewership has been increasing over the years and the rematch of the Bengals vs the Chiefs for the second year in a row may draw a bigger crowd.
