AT&T TV NOW is Launching a New Cloud DVR Platform, But Downgrading Beta Users From 100 to 20 Hours of Storage

On November 1st, AT&T TV NOW will be launching a new Cloud DVR platform, but what exactly that means isn’t completely clear. While new customers has had 20 hours of DVR storage included since launch, those who were early beta testers were given 100 hours as a benefit. What we do know is that those users will be downgraded to the same 20 hours of storage when the new Cloud DVR Platform launches.

In a message to affected customers AT&T TV NOW said:

As a valued AT&T TV NOW customers, you deserve to be the first to know about all the changes to your services. As you might now, AT&T TV NOW typically includes 20 hours of True Cloud DVR with any package subscription. Even though we don’t offer an upgrade alternative, your account has had access to 100 hours of recording time at no extra cost.

Starting November 1st, we are migrating to a new Cloud DVR platform and you storage will transition back to 20 hours of recording time. So, make sure you stream all the good movies and shows you love now over this next month. And don’t worry — the most recent 20 hours of content will remain on your DVR, as long as it is less than 30 days old.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but rest assured we’re working to improve your AT&T TV NOW experience so be on lookout for additional offering in the future.

With the launch of AT&T TV, their streaming version of DirecTV, which includes a 500 Hour DVR, the company is probably making upgrades to their DVR platform in order to support the additional recording. Hopefully at that time, AT&T TV NOW will be making a 100 Hour DVR upgrade option too customers. For over a year, DIRECTV NOW, which has since been renamed AT&T TV NOW, has indicated that they would be launching a 100 Hour DVR upgrade, but that has never arrived.

With only 20 hours of storage, the service is way behind their competitors. PlayStation Vue, Philo, and YouTube TV each offer Unlimited Storage, while fuboTV and Hulu Live TV each offer 30 and 50 hours respectively. The two streaming companies also offer an upgrade to hundreds of hours of storage for $5-10 a month.
