Disney+ Hires Director of Original Series from Netflix, to Lead Business Affairs for Upcoming OTT Service
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has hired Tehmina Jaffer as SVP Business Affairs for their upcoming direct-to-consumer service Disney+.
Jaffer comes from Netflix in a similar role where she helped the service launch original shows like Narcos and 13 Reasons Why. The new position at Disney+ is expected to oversee “strategy, policy and procedure for the Disney+ content and marketing team.”
Disney’s OTT service is expected to launch later this year, with original movies and shows including a $100 million, 10 episodes live-action Star Wars TV series from Iron Man director John Favreau. They have already announced television series based on Monsters Inc., High School Musical, and a Thor spin-off called Loki.
They will also be making films exclusively available for the service like live action remakes of Lady and the Tramp and The Sword in the Stone, the Anna Kendrick Christmas comedy Noelle, and Timmy Failure, based on the best-selling books.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Ricky Strauss, President of Content & Marketing for Disney+ said: “Her insights into the evolving nature of deal-making in the streaming space are vital to our efforts. Tehmina is smart, innovative and hardworking and I couldn’t be more excited to have her join us.”
