Disney Plus Ranks as Google’s Top Trending Search Term of 2019

Google revealed its Year in Search 2019 on Wednesday, with Disney Plus claiming the top trending search term of the year despite it only launching back in November.

Google assigns each search term a value between 0 and 100, with 100 being the highest. Disney Plus achieved a score of 100, with Utah being the state that most frequently searched the term. Although the next two spots — Cameron Boyce at No. 2 and Nipsey Hussle at No. 3 — also achieved scores of 100, Google still ranked Disney Plus as No. 1.

CNET notes that the phrase “top trending” means “the terms had the highest spike in traffic over a certain period of time this year compared with last year.”

Some factors involved in the search term’s popularity are branding power, potential membership interest — Variety reported that Disney Plus had over 10 million sign-ups after its launch on Nov. 12 — and, in all likelihood, Baby Yoda, the breakout character of Disney’s original Star Wars-related programming, “The Mandalorian.” Baby Yoda even managed to beat out Baby Shark for the No. 1 search term in the Babies category.

Disney Plus is already proving itself to be a formidable opponent in the streaming wars. Disney’s stock jumped by 7.3 percent after Disney Plus’ launch day.

One of its appeal is the Disney Plus bundle package, which comes with Hulu (with ads) and ESPN+. The bundle is only $12.99 a month, which is less than if you paid for all three services separately. Disney Plus currently costs $6.99 alone, though you can preview it with a seven-day free trial.
