Netflix Debuts Reboot of ‘Unsolved Mysteries’

Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries” arrives today with six new episodes. Six more episodes are expected to stream in future.

The original series ran from 1987 to 1999, presented by Robert Stack, a notable Hollywood actor in the 1950s and 1960s. It is is being revived by creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer and Shawn Levy, producer of “Stranger Things.”

(The show had a few revamped versions on cable since 1999. The co-creators kept interest alive via a YouTube channel.)

Terry Dunn Meurer is the showrunner on the 2020 version of the show. Both she and Cosgrove are executive producers on the Netflix series, along with Levy.

Each episode, like the original, will focus on one outstanding case. Murders, paranormal encounters, possible UFO abductions are explored. However, this reboot doesn’t have a host.

Series creators John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer stated: “We regarded ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ as a ‘mystery’ show, not a ‘true crime’ show. When choosing cases, we’ve always looked for diversity in races, ages, locations and eras. We’ve covered such classic mysteries as Bigfoot, and high-profile, historic crimes ranging from the Black Dahlia murder to the Kennedy assassinations.”

To help solve the mysteries, viewers will be directed to police or unsolved.com to share any relevant leads.

Good Housekeeping listed the first six shows:

Mystery on the Rooftop: The dead body of a newlywed is found in a Baltimore Hotel eight days after he disappeared.
13 Minutes: A local hairdresser disappears in daylight, leaving behind her teenage son.
House of Terror: A French man’s wife is found buried under the porch of their home.
No Ride Home: A 23-year-old never returned home from a party he attended with friends in a rural Kansas town.
Berkshire’s UFO: Residents of the Massachusetts town are convinced they saw a UFO in 1969.
Missing Witness: When a stepdaughter confesses to helping her mother dispose of her stepfather’s body, she suddenly disappears.
