Netflix Gears Up for ‘Ozark’ Season 3, Highlights Women Filmmakers in ‘Because She Watched’

Fern Siegel

Netflix has just released the trailer for season three of “Ozark,” which begins March 27.

It picks up six months after season two ends. Marty (Jason Bateman “Arrested Development”) and wife Wendy (Laura Linney “Lucy Barton,” “You Can Count On Me”) have a new money-laundering scene, a riverboat casino. While they fight for control of the family’s future, they’re also going to marriage counseling. Wendy favors casino expansion, helped by Helen (Janet McTeer, “Maleficent,” “Damages”) and drug cartel leader Omar Navarro (Felix Solis, “The Following,” “Made in Jersey”).

Also, Netflix and UN Women have launched “Because She Watched,” a collection of series, documentaries and films curated by women before and behind the camera. Curators include Janet Mock (“Pose”) Salma Hayek (“Frida Kahlo”) Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) and others. The debut ties in with International Women’s Day on March 8.

The series can be access at or by searching the title on the streamer. Each entry identifies the curator who selected it, including Alice Wu, “Frances Ha,” Mindy Kaling, “Chewing Gum” and Shefali Shah, “Delhi Crime.”

Last year, women comprised 20 percent of the directors of Netflix original films.

“This collaboration is about taking on the challenge of telling women’s stories and showing women in all their diversity. It’s about making visible the invisible … ” said Anita Bhatia, UN Women deputy executive director.

The streamer has also released the trailer for the six-part soccer series “The English Game,” which will launch globally March 20. It’s written and executive produced by “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes. The show explores soccer’s beginnings and how it embraces all classes in popularity. “English Game” stars Edward Holcroft (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”), Kevin Guthrie (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”), Charlotte Hope (“The Spanish Princess”) and Craig Parkinson (“Black Mirror: Bandersnatch”).

Separately, Studio Lambert, producer of “Undercover Boss” and “The Circle,” is bringing a dance show to Netflix. It’s kicking off production for eight weeks in London, where it hopes to find the next top choreographer. The working title is “All The Right Moves,” reports Deadline.
