Netflix Scores Harlan Coben Thriller ‘Six Years,’ David Ayer to Direct

Netflix has signed David Ayer (“Training Day,” “Bright”) to write and direct “Six Years,” the bestseller by Harlan Coben, author of 32 suspense novels.

Coben boasts an international following and his titles include “Run Away” and “Don’t Let Go.” This year, he published “The Boy From the Woods.”

Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me,” “The Incredible Hulk”) is expected to direct, reports Deadline.

“Six Years” is the story of college professor Jake Fisher, despondent when Natalie, the love of his life, marries another man. When her husband dies, he goes to the funeral, hoping to reconnect. But the widow isn’t Natalie — and everything he thought about their relationship — and his life — explodes. He sets out to find her and unravel the truth — at any cost.

This isn’t Coben’s first time on Netflix. The author has a 14-book deal with Netflix that’s already produced the English-set series “The Five,” “Safe” and now “The Stranger.” His “The Woods” will debut on the streamer as a six-part Polish original TV series launching later this year. Other global adaptions Netflix include “The Innocent” in Spain.

Ayer, whose “Bright” ran on the streamer, just re-upped his eOne deal, after producing “Ready for War” and directing-producing “Deputy.”
