Robert Downey Jr. to Produce Apple TV Plus Series, Netflix’s ‘Money Heist’ Gets Fifth and Final Season Order
Robert Downey Jr. and Team Downey will produce a dramatic series for Apple TV+. The show, based on Michael Lista’s Toronto Life article “The Sting,” is about a detective who tries to solve a cold case that goes awry. No official word on whether Iron Man will participate in front of the camera.

Spanish hit “Money Heist” received its fifth and final season from Netflix. Production started this week on the upcoming 10-episode thriller. As creator Alex Pina explained: “We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels …”

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way signed a multi-year, first-look deal with Apple TV+, which includes TV and film. As an actor, DiCaprio will star in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” for the streamer. The nonfiction story, set in the 1920s, charts the death of members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma, oil barons suddenly killed off one by one. J. Edgar Hoover sent in the FBI to investigate.

“Hunters” has been renewed for a second season by Amazon. The Al Pacino-led thriller follows Nazi hunters living in 1977 New York City. They are tracking down Nazis hoping to recreate a Fourth Reich. The goal is to bring them to justice. The cast includes Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa, Carol Kane, Saul Rubinek, Dylan Baker and Lena Olin.

Damon Wayans Jr. will star in a bounty-hunter action comedy at Peacock. “Happy Endings” creator David Caspe will executive produce, as will Wayans. Matthew and Daniel Libman, the “Happy Endings” writers, will pen the half-hour series.

Acorn TV has a host of mysteries and comedies this month. The original thriller “The Nest,” one of the BBC’s highest-rated new dramas of 2020, debuted its finale this week. “The Other One,” a family sitcom, arrives August 10, while the quirky French legal drama “Family Business” begins August 24.

Rachel Ray’s “30 Minute Meals” is back with a series of self-shot shows, but only on the Food Network Kitchen app. The celebrity cook will not run the show on Food Network’s linear network.

Stand-up Felipe Esparaza is prepping for his first original comedy special, September 1, on Netflix. Esparaza won Last Comic Standing in 2010 and has hosted a weekly podcast “What’s Up Fool?” for six years.
