WarnerMedia Strikes Distribution Deal With Apple Ahead of HBO Max Launch

A month out from the launch of HBO Max, parent company, WarnerMedia is making sure the app will be available to as many people as possible. According to Deadline, the company has struck a distribution deal with Apple, bringing the streaming service to Apple users at launch.

“As we prepare for the launch of HBO Max, our focus remains on making it as widely available as possible for customers seeking out this best-in-class streaming experience,” stated WarnerMedia distribution chief Rich Warren. “The availability to HBO Max across Apple devices is a great addition to our distribution offering and will provide seamless access for millions of customers.”

When the service launches on May 27, customers will have access to HBO Max via iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. Those with second and third generation Apple TV models can cast HBO Max content from their iPhone or iPad to their TVs using AirPlay. Current HBO Now customers who are billed through the App Store and those who are subscribed to HBO through Apple TV channels will get the service for free, Deadline stated. New customers of HBO Max will have the ability to subscribe to the service directly in the app using in-app purchase.

The deal with Apple is the latest in a string of distribution deals WarnerMedia has set up. Earlier this month, WarnerMedia also announced they reached a deal to provide HBO Max to Charter customers when it launches. The deal allows all existing HBO subscribers, including those in its Spectrum Silver and Gold video packages, to be upgraded to HBO Max at no additional cost.

Back in February, the media giant expanded a distribution deal with YouTube TV also allows HBO Max to be available on the platform when it launches. The channel will be a premium add-on to the Live TV Streaming Service, which will likely match the $14.99 a month that it is available directly from HBO.

HBO Max will launch in May 27 at $14.99 a month — the same price as HBO Now. Original shows include “The Flight Attendant,” a one-hour thriller series starring and co-produced by Kaley Cuoco; “Love Life,” a 10-episode half-hour romantic comedy anthology series starring and co-produced by Anna Kendrick; and “Dune: The Sisterhood,” an adaptation of Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson’s book based in the world created by Frank Herbert’s book “Dune.”
