According to a report out of Recode, Facebook is looking to allow members to subscribe to streaming services like HBO, Showtime, and Starz.
The feature would live inside of Facebook Watch, the social media company’s home for streaming content, and launch in mid-2019. This comes as reports expect Amazon’s Prime Video Channels business to net $500+ million from their streaming partners.
Amazon currently drives 53% of HBO’s direct-to-consumer subscribers, so streaming companies are hoping to expand their acquisition channels.
Facebook isn’t the only company thinking of launching an Amazon Channels competitor. Both Apple and Roku are also in late stage preparations of launching similar services.
