Apple Teams Up With Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to Create New Limited Series for Apple TV+

Apple is once again teaming up with Steven Spielberg for another Apple TV+ original, but this time, they’re adding Tom Hanks to the mix. The tech giant has ordered nine episodes of Masters of the Air, a limited series based on a book by Donald L. Miller, titled, Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought The Air War Against Nazi Germany.

The series is a followup to WWII HBO miniseries Band Of Brothers and The Pacific, which Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Hanks’ Playtone previously produced for HBO. According to Deadline, the cable network relinquished the series to Apple TV+ due to production costs. The show will reportedly cost more than $200 million to produce and will be the first series Apple produces under its own studio.

Masters of the Air, will be the third international drama series on Apple TV+, following Pachinko and Shantaram. It will be the second series the tech company produces with Spielberg, the first being Amazing Stories—an anthology series that features unreal fantasy and horror stories.

Apple has made it a point to align with some big names for the Apple TV+ content. Just yesterday, news came out that they signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Alfonso Cuarón, who previously won the Best Director Oscar for Netflix’s Roma.

Apple will be launching Apple TV+ on Nov. 1, and will include shows like The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell, See with Jason Momoa, as well as Oprah’s Book Club by Oprah Winfrey and For All Mankind a show by Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica writer Ronald D. Moore.
