As The New York Times Expands Into Streaming Content, Will Launch First TV Series on FX & Hulu

The New York Times has announced that they will be launching their first tv series, titled The Weekly, which will premiere on June 2nd on FX. The show follows 1,600 New York Times journalists across 160 countries and will dig into a single story each week with the journalist who reported on the issue. One interesting feature of the show, is that while it will air live on FX, the show will be available on Hulu the following day.

The first season of the show will feature more than 30 reporters, with stories from not only the U.S. — but from around the world. Some of those featured will be Caitlin Dickerson who covers immigration issues, Nicholas Casey, the Andes bureau chief, and Matt Apuzzo, a national security reporter.

The Weekly Trailer

The show that was originally announced last March, was given a 30-week commitment from FX. The company has been expanding further into streaming entertainment. They have been working Netflix on a documentary called The Diagnosis and sold the rights to their Harvey Weinstein story to Annapurna Pictures. New York Times also partnered with Showtime on The Fourth Estate to air a four-part documentary, which follows the behind the scenes of their newsroom.
