Four immortal warriors have secretly protected humanity for centuries, but someone has discovered their secret.
Now, in Netflix’s action-packed “The Old Guard,” they are being hunted by Merrick (Harry Melling), a pharmaceutical CEO who is out for their blood — literally.
The quartet is led by Andromache the Scythian (Charlize Theron), better known as Andy. Once human, she discovered, like the remaining trio — Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe (Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marinelli) — they may be wounded, but recovered immediately.
Death is not an option. Which explains why Andy has been alive for thousands of years. Joe and Nicky are former Crusaders who killed each other several times before falling in love. “His kiss still thrills me,” says Joe, “even after a millennium.”
Fighting to elude capture, the four fighters also welcome a new comrade, Nile (KiKi Layne), a young Marine who fought in Afghanistan and is trying to cope with her new reality.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball” “Beyond the Lights”), the series is adapted by Greg Rucka, who created the original 2017 graphic novel with illustrator Leandro Fernández.
