Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach.
As his ambitious younger sister heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Tomei) and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys—Oscar, Igor and Richie—and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey. But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray (Burr), it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.
‘The King of Staten Island’ Pricing & Rental Options
Unlike some other PVOD, it is available for a rental price of $19.99. You have 30 days to start the movie and 48 hours to complete it once you start watching. The film debuts on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, YouTube, Fandango Now, Google Play, Row8 and MoviesAnywhere.
The new straight-to-video trend, which has upset theater owners, has been driven by shelter-in-place orders. Yet the success of the model, in the present circumstances, is hard to refute: “Trolls World Tour” earned NBCU more than $100 million.
Disney has gone with a different plan, streaming “Artemis Fowl,” which was scheduled for a May 29 movie release, on Disney+ today. Given the pandemic, Disney also made “Onward,” a Pixar animated film, available for digital purchase months ahead of schedule. The film hit movie theaters on March 6, but began streaming on Disney+ April 3.
Warner was an early adaptor. “Birds of Prey,” a spinoff of 2017’s “Suicide Squad,” was released in theaters February 8, just ahead of theater closings. It was subsequently offered to users for purchase in March for $19.99 and rental in April on platforms such as Amazon Prime and iTunes.
