Roku to Launch ‘This Old House’ Ad-Free Subscription Channel

Aubrey Chorpenning

Roku announced today that a This Old House premium subscription channel will launch on The Roku Channel on October 12. On October 13, This Old House Classic, a live channel, will launch, featuring a 24/7 stream of classic episodes of This Old House and Ask This Old House.

The This Old House premium subscription channel is ad-free and will cost $4.99 per month. A 14-day free trial is available. New episodes will premiere on the channel each week, as well as classic episodes of both This Old House and Ask This Old House. This is the first time Roku has offered its own content ad-free with a subscription.

For the first time in its 43-year history, the 2021-22 season will feature 39 episodes of each show – 13 more episodes than previous seasons. New episodes will premiere on PBS as well as an all-new dedicated This Old House premium subscription channel on The Roku Channel on Thursdays. Viewers will be able to stream new episodes for free on-demand on The Roku Channel the following Mondays.

This Old House was acquired by Roku in March. Since then, the franchise has seen significant streaming growth. Dan Suratt, Vice President of This Old House, Roku told Axios, “We’ve seen streaming hours grow almost 50% more in the past six month versus the six months prior to the acquisition.”

“This Old House continues to be a leader in the home improvement genre, and we’re thrilled to build upon our legacy with more episodes as well as all-new SVOD and linear channels,” said Suratt. “Joining Roku earlier this year enabled This Old House to invest more in our storied brand, which will benefit an all-new generation of home improvement enthusiasts this season and in many years to come.”

Recently, Roku has made a few changes to improve both its streaming devices and The Roku Channel. Last week, an update and new features were unveiled for Roku devices. Throughout this year, Roku Channel has been adding new channels and original content to its lineup.
