Sunday Night Football Fans with YouTube TV Have A Non-NBCUniversal Answer to Watch: The NFL App

Are you a YouTube TV subscriber worried about the upcoming split between your live TV streaming provider and NBCUniversal? Are you so offended that you wouldn’t even be willing to subscribe to Peacock Premium in order to watch Sunday Night Football games? You may have an option: The NFL App.

Should YouTube TV lose its NBCUniversal channels, you can watch Sunday Night Football games on your mobile device through the NFL app. Note that the app does not allow casting and thus cannot be watched on a TV through a streaming device.

Subscribers should not link their carrier with the app.

If you’re a YouTube TV subscriber and want to watch NFL games on your TV (should the service lose its NBCUniversal channels, of course) the best option would be to sign up for Peacock Premium. At only $4.99 a month, you can gain access to Sunday Night Football as well as other sports like Premier League Soccer, PGA Tour golf, and WWE wrestling, plus a wide variety of movies and shows. For more details, check out our guide on what Peacock can replace from NBC.

A resolution does not seem like it’s on the horizon if yesterday's email from YouTube TV is any indication. The company sent its subscribers an email saying,” We know that you love watching the wide variety of live sports, news, and shows available to you on YouTube TV. That’s why we have been working so hard to renew our deal with NBCUniversal to continue carrying their content on YouTube TV. However, since our agreement expires on Thursday, September 30, 2021, and we have not yet been able to reach an equitable agreement, we wanted to give you an early heads-up so you understand your choices.”

Comcast, NBCUniversal’s parent company, has an equally difficult situation on its hands, as they stand to lose New York City-area regional sports network MSG on September 30. Like the situation with YouTube TV, there doesn’t seem to be any sort of upcoming deal between the two sides, as, according to MSG, “Comcast Xfinity intends to drop MSG Networks and access to hundreds of live game telecasts of the Knicks, Rangers, Devils, Islanders and Red Bulls.”
