What’s Coming to Streaming, Including ‘Psych 3’ and ‘Head of the Class’ reboot

Fern Siegel

Psych 3: The is Gus will stream on Nov. 18 on Peacock. Your favorite amateur detectives are back. Original cast members James Roday Rodriguez and Dulé Hill are back. This time around, they prep for a shotgun wedding, going rogue before baby Guster arrives, as Lassiter grapples with the future of his career.

Here are additional deals and projects:

  • HBO Max has announced a Nov. 4 premiere date for the reboot of the classic high-school sitcom Head of the Class. The new 10-episode series will follow a group of overachieving high-school students who meet their greatest challenge: a teacher, Alicia Gomez (Isabella Gomez, One Day at a Time). She wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life. Robin Givens (The Bold and the Beautiful) stars as a parent who wants what’s best for her son, but she may need a reminder of what things were like when she was in the same advanced program — as a member of the original 1980s ABC version of Head of the Class.

  • We’ve got a look at the new Home Sweet Home Alone movie coming out on Disney+ with next month’s Disney+ Day events on Nov. 12. Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates, and Kenan Thompson star in the update of the classic story of a mischievous and resourceful young boy who is left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. When a married couple plot to break into his home to swipe a priceless heirloom, hijinks ensue. Here’s a first look at the trailer:

  • ABC has given producers the go-ahead to create a pilot for an updated version of the late 1980s-early ’90s NBC legal drama L.A. Law. The project has been in the works since last December. Original series star Blair Underwood (Impeachment: American Crime Story) will reprise his role as attorney Jonathan Rollins, now leading the venerable McKenzie-Brachman law firm. Over the years, the firm has reinvented itself as a litigation firm specializing in only the most high profile, boundary-pushing and incendiary cases. Rollins clashes with a younger lawyer, millennial JJ Freeman, to decide the best path forward for the firm. Underwood will also be executive producer of the new show.

  • AMC Networks has given a green light to Tales of the Walking Dead, an episodic anthology series focused on new and established characters set in the world of the original series. An initial season of six episodes is expected to go into production early next year and premiere on AMC+ and AMC next summer. Channing Powell, a writer and producer on The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead, will be the Tales showrunner.

  • Apple TV+’s The Shrink Next Door, launches Nov. 12 with the first three segments of the eight-episode series. It stars Will Ferrell (Anchorman), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man and The Wasp), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), and Casey Wilson (Happy Endings). The show is inspired by true events and a podcast of the same name, which details the decades-long manipulation and exploitation by psychiatrist Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell). Marty may be defenseless against Dr. Ike, but his sister Phyllis (Hahn) is not.

  • Emma Corrin (The Crown) will star in FX’s limited series, Retreat. The project, from The OA creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, is about an amateur sleuth invited by a billionaire to solve a murder at a secluded retreat in a beautiful but remote location. Marling and Batmanglij will both direct. Marling will also have a key role in the show.

  • The Girl in the Woods will launch Oct. 20 on Peacock. The eight-episode series is a supernatural series where monsters are real, kept behind a mysterious door in a cult colony. Teenage Carrie has to guard the door, but when strange things begin happening, she recruits two friends to become monster killers. The monsters are former humans who can change into monsters then change back into humans.

Adam McKay is among the executive producers.
