YouTube Premium to Put Some Shows in Front of Paywall

YouTube recently rebranded their YouTube Red subscription to YouTube Premium, but that’s not the only change we are expected to see.

Speaking at a Television Critics Association (TCA) event, YouTube programming chief Susanne Daniels shared that the company will test moving some of their premium shows in front of the paywall.

The first show that will see the new treatment will be Best Shot by Lebron James. Initially, all episodes of the show will be available exclusively on YouTube Premium, but weekly they will release one episode to all viewers with ads.

In an interview with MediaPost, Daniels also shared that they would be creating more long-form YouTube Originals.

“The feedback was that ‘we get short-form all day on YouTube, if we’re going to subscribe to YouTube Premium we want longer episodes.

More of the content will be longer than 20 minutes, rather short 5 minute clips.
