Amazon Prime Video Orders TV Reboot of ‘A League of Their Own,’ Abbi Jacobson Stars

The popular 1992 movie about women baseball players during WWII is about to become an Amazon Prime Video series.

The reboot has been co-created by Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”) and Will Graham (“Mozart in the Jungle”). Jacobson will also star, and both she and Graham will executive produce the series.

The original movie was a fictional account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which ran from 1943-1954. It starred Tom Hanks, Madonna, Geena Davis, Bitty Schram and Rosie O’Donnell.

This round, Amazon stated, the project will “widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball. The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters…”

Jacobson added: “It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a crackling sense of humor for these players to achieve their dreams. We’re hoping to bring audiences a story with all of those qualities.”

Other cast members will include Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez and Priscilla Delgado.

Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are producing the series, in association with Field Trip Productions.
