‘Black Beauty’ Added to Disney Plus’ Stable, Film to Premiere Later This Year

Disney+ has added “Black Beauty” to its content stable, which is slated to stream later this year.

The film stars Kate Winslet (“Titanic,” “The Reader”) and Mackenzie Foy (“Interstellar”) and is adapted from Anna Sewell’s 1877 novel.

To date, there have been seven movies based on Sewell’s beloved book. Disney+’s version will be a modern retelling of the fate of the beautiful free mustang rounded up in the American West.

Once captured, Black Beauty’s story trajectory dovetails with Jo Green, a teenager mourning the loss of her parents. The two develop a profound bond.

Foy stars as Jo, while Winslet voices Black Beauty. Also in the cast are Iain Glen (“Resident Evil,” “Game of Thrones”) and Claire Forlani (“Meet Joe Black,” “The Medallion”).

The movie is written and directed by Ashley Avis (“Adolescence”). Constantin Film and JB Pictures produced.

“Black Beauty” is the second feature acquired by the streamer. The first was “Clouds,” about a teenage musician, which is also scheduled for release this year.

Separately, Disney+ scored 15 Emmy nominations for “The Mandalorian,” which is readying for a second season.
