‘Clouds,’ an Original Film About Teen Musician Zach Sobiech, to Stream on Disney Plus in Fall
Teenager Zach Sobiech died of bone cancer in May 2013 — but “Clouds,” a film about his life, will debut this fall on Disney+.
The movie is based on the book “Fly a Little Higher,” written by his mother.
A muscian with the band A Firm Handshake, Zach’s single “Clouds” hit the Billboard Hot 100 and become No. 1 on iTunes.
The film, which chronicles the 17-year-old’s senior year in high school, is directed and produced by Justin Baldoni (“Five Feet Apart”), co-founder of Wayfarer Studios.
This is also the first film buy for Disney+’s Global Content team.
The cast includes Fin Argus (Brat’s “Total Eclipse”) as Zach Sobiech, Sabrina Carpenter (“The Hate U Give”) as his best friend and bandmate Sammy, Madison Iseman (“Annabelle Comes Home,” “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”) as Zach’s girlfriend Amy, Thomas Everett Scott (“13 Reasons Why,” “La La Land”) and Neve Campbell (“Skyscraper,” “House of Cards”) as his mother.
“I fell in love with Zach’s infectious joy and spirit seven years ago when I made a short documentary about his life. Just before he passed, I made a promise to him that I would do whatever I could to make sure the world heard his music,” stated Baldoni.
Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney+, added that Zach’s story “shows us the power of optimism, music, and human connection. ”
