Disney Plus UK to Launch With First 2 Episodes of ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’
Disney+ is expanding its universe, launching March 24 in Europe. The new service will hit screens in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland and the Nordics.
Europeans will get their first look at “The Mandalorian,” the live-action “Star Wars” series set after the Empire falls but before the First Order.
“The Mandalorian” was among the most-watched streaming shows in the U.S. last year, giving a mega-boost to Disney+’s subscriber base. Disney+, which debuted Nov. 12, 2019, gained 28.6 million subscribers, thanks, in part, to the series. Deadline reports the first two episodes of “The Mandalorian” will premiere in the UK on launch day.
Also slated for a March 24 UK release are the first two episodes of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” then one every Friday as of March 27, Deadline says.
The Simpsons” and “Black Panther” are also popular titles in the mix.
In fact, Disney+ UK will offer more than 500 films and 350 series, that’s in addition to 26 exclusive Disney+ original shows, like “Lady and the Tramp” and “Diary of a Future President,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Disney+ will cost £5.99 a month in Britain and 6.99 euros in Europe. (In the UK, Disney has set an introductory annual subscription price of £49.99 only until March 23. Thereafter, it’s £59.99.)
