Disney Plus Viewers Continue to Rise, Service Averaging Almost a Million New Subscribers Per Day

Disney+ may have launched with some glitches on Nov. 12, but the streaming service has been off to the races ever since. A day after its launch, Disney+ had already amassed 10 million subscribers and the app had been downloaded 3.2 million times. One of its highly anticipated shows, “The Mandalorian,” also debuted to some amazing numbers, taking the No. 3 spot on a ranking of the most in-demand digital originals among U.S. viewers and garnering garnered 40 million “demand expressions.”

Now, it seems Disney+’s reign is continuing as new data shows the streaming service is averaging almost a million subscribers per day. According app analytics company Apptoptia, the Disney+ mobile app has been downloaded 15.5 million times and garnered $5 million through in-app purchases in its first 13 days.

In comparison, fellow Disney-owned service Hulu just added 500,000 subscribers in the third quarter, reaching 28.5 million paid subscribers in total. Netflix, which has the biggest market share, currently stands at 158.3 million paid subscribers around the world, with 60.6 million of those coming in the U.S. Amazon Prime Video is at 100 million subscribers with 26 million U.S. customers streaming videos, according to a report by Reuters.

Apptopia also discovered that there’s also high demand for Disney’s $12.99 per month bundle, which includes Hulu and ESPN+. The Disney+ app has radically increased downloads for the other two, with Hulu downloads up close to 55 percent in the past two weeks and ESPN+ has increased by more than 50 percent.

Disney+ launched on Nov. 12 for $6.99. The first year will include 25 new original series, 10-plus movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies and 400 library titles, including the entire Disney vault. Disney+ is the exclusive home of all of Walt Disney’s blockbuster films starting with the 2019 slate, which will roll out to the platform within the first year. The streaming service also offers exclusive series and films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.
