HBO Max Premieres 4 Shows, Including ‘Adventure Time: Distant Lands — BMO’ and ‘Doom Patrol’ Season 2

HBO Max is reviving the award-winning animated series “Adventure Time” with four new hour-long specials.

The first is “Adventure Time: Distant Lands — BMO.” BMO is a little robot that partners with a humanoid bunny. They team up to save their space station. The spin-off explores the universe beyond the Land of Ooo, a post-apocalyptic world where the original series, which ran for 10 season on Cartoon Network, is set.

All four shows are based on the original, created by Pendleton Ward. (His latest work, “Midnight Gospel,” streams on Netflix.)

Also up is season two of “Doom Patrol,” in which Cliff Steele aka Robotman (voiced by Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero) and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) — have to save the world. Again.

“That is, if they can find a way to grow up … both figuratively and literally,” reads the official synopsis.

Two other shows, season two of “Ese & Roy” and season three of “Search Party” will also debut today.

“Esme & Roy” targets viewers ages 4 to 6 and uses the play-and-learn technique. There are 26 new episodes, along with a 22-minute special. The cute series follows the adventures of little girl named Esme and her best monster friend, Roy. Esme, 7, is a “monster sitter” who lives in Monsterdale and is great at solving problems. Her MonsterCase, a suitcase filled with games, keeps her charges occupied.

“Search Party” is a neo-noir black comedy created by Sarah-Violet Bliss (“Fort Tilden”), Charles Rogers (“Fort Tilden) and Michael Showalter (“The Lovebirds”) and set in New York. The first season began with the disappearance of a young woman. The story revolves around Dory (Alia Shawkat – “Arrested Development”) and her self-absorbed friends. The third season kicks off today; a fourth season has already been ordered.

The first two seasons of “Search Party” ran on TBS before moving to HBO Max.
