The 2020 MLB Draft wraps up as day one went without a hitch hitch yesterday. Today sees the remaining hopefuls getting placed virtually beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Day two, which covers rounds two through five, will be broadcast on MLB Network and ESPN2.
Typically, teams pick their drafts in round two through five in the reverse order of their 2019 regular-season records. This year, however, seven teams aren’t eligible for second-round picks — the Astros and Red Sox are being penalized for sign-stealing, while the the Angels, Braves, D-backs, Phillies and Yankees are being penalized for signing free agents who received a qualifying offer, according to the MLB.
As with the first round, the Tigers will begin picking today at number 38. The Houston Astros will wrap the 2020 draft, picking last at No. 160. According to CBS Sports, Jared Kelley from Refugio High School (Texas), Chris McMahon of the Miami Hurricanes, J.T. Ginn of Mississippi State, Daniel Cabrera of Louisiana State University and Cole Wilcox of the Georgia Bulldogs are the top five picks for today.
