Latin American SVOD Subscriptions Predicted to Grow From 76 to 131 Million by 2026

Just one week after the Latin American launch of Disney's Star+, LATAM streaming video-on-demand subscriptions are expected to skyrocket over the next five years.

According to a new report from Digital TV Research, subscriptions are predicted to increase from 76 million at the end of 2021 to 131 million by 2026.

Brazil and Mexico are expected to have the most subscriptions of any Latin American territories in 2026. Leading the pack, Brazil is predicted to reach 49 million subscriptions, while Mexico will have 32 million subscriptions within the next five years.

While more streaming services are making their way to Latin America, Netflix is expected to hold strong in the number one spot, but its share in the market will shrink. Other streaming services are beginning to gain traction, especially as new ones launch in LATAM. Disney+ will reach 33 million subscribers and HBO Max will have 10 million.

Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “Five US-based platforms [Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and HBO] will account for 91% of the region’s paying SVOD subscriptions by end-2026.”

Throughout 2021, several streaming services have made their debuts in Latin America. On March 4, CBS All Access was rebranded and launched as Paramount+ in Latin America and the US. HBO Max expanded to reach 39 territories in Latin American and the Caribbean on June 29. discovery+ was initially slated to launch in Brazil in September, but it was pushed back and will be available later this year.
