The British series “Line of Duty” is back on Netflix in various global regions: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia-Pacific. In addition, the first four seasons will return to the UK. (BritBox and Acorn TV hold the rights in the U.S. Acorn also has the exclusive streaming rights in the U.S. for season five.)
The show, a staple of British TV, disappeared from the streamer in April.
Deadline reports the initial problems began with internal disagreements between Kew Media Group and its distribution unit. Netflix stepped in, making Kew Media’s administrator, FTI Consulting, an offer to maintain “Line of Duty” licenses. When that deal collapsed, Netflix made a deal with World Productions.
Now, the police procedural is streaming again.
Written by Jed Mercurio (“Bodyguard,” “Bodies”), the show has a loyal following. It follows D.S. Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), a firearms officer, transferred to Anti-Corruption Unit 12 after refusing to participate in a cover-up of an unlawful shooting. “Line of Duty” stars Adrian Dunbar, as the head of the anti-corruption unit, and Vicky McClure as an undercover officer.
One of its memorable lines of dialogue: “You take a shot at the king, make sure you kill him, son!”
The trade magazine also reported ITV Studies will sell Season 6 of “Line of Duty” to international markets. The company hopes to rep all six seasons of the hit series.
