Netflix Cancels ‘The Punisher’ & ‘Jessica Jones’, as Marvel Content Expected to Move to Hulu

According to a statement to Deadline, Marvel’s The Punisher and Jessica Jones will be cancelled. The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix, while Jessica Jones will air its third and final season sometime this year.

The announcement comes after other Netflix/Marvel shows Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil were all cancelled late last year in expectation that Disney will bring most of Marvel’s content to Hulu. Disney is expected to launch their Disney+ service late this year, but will use Hulu for adult-themed shows — which will be majority owned by Disney through their acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

There have been rumors that Hulu might try to revive some Netflix cancelled series, in addition to launching new shows. Earlier this month Marvel TV announced that they signed a four animated series deal with Hulu. The Hollywood Reporter suggested that the shows would be based on adult-themed comics: M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Money, Tigra & Dazzler, and Hit Monkey, which would join their current live action original Marvel Runaways.
