There is nothing like a beloved comedy revival. “Reno 911!,” which ran on Comedy Central from 2003-2009, has an order for a seventh season at Quibi, the mobile streamer debuting on April 6, 2020.
The “Cops” parody had the cast improvise many of their lines, pretending to be deputies in the Reno Sheriff’s Department.
Original creators and many cast members, including Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney-Silver, will write and star in the revival.
Comedy Central Productions will produce.
“‘Reno 911!’ holds a special place in our hearts, and it will be a delight to get the original cast back together for ‘re-boot goofin,’” Lennon said. He recently signed with Quibi for comedy series “Winos,” about a Silicon Valley failure hoping to transform a troubled vineyard.
Quibi, headed by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, will offer subscribers access to original short-form content in a mobile-only format. The service will have two pricing tiers at launch.
“I for one will sleep soundly knowing ‘Reno 911!’ is back on the beat keeping our streets safe once again,” said Doug Herzog, former president of Viacom’s Music Entertainment Group and now a senior executive at Quibi.
