Report: Amazon to Team with CBS to Broadcast Its Second-Ever NFL Playoff Game

As Amazon prepares to broadcast Thursday Night Football on a full-time basis, it is rumored to continue its relationship with CBS to broadcast its games — at least for now.

According to a report by Anthony Crupi of Sportico, Amazon Prime Video will simulcast an NFL Wild Card game on its streaming platform and are expected to once again pair up with CBS in one of the two Sunday time slots. Last year, Amazon simulcast CBS’ Bears/Saints playoff game, which was also featured on Nickelodeon in a “kid’s cast” second-screen experience. Crupi reports that the expected Amazon/CBS game will air on Sunday.

Earlier this month, the NFL announced its “Super Wild Card Weekend” schedule, which will now culminate in a Monday night game, rather than a Sunday afternoon or evening tilt. “Super Wild Card Weekend” will now have two Wild Card games on Saturday (4:35 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. ET), three on Sunday (1:05 p.m., 4:40 p.m., and 8:15 p.m. ET), and one on Monday (8:15 p.m. ET). For the 2021 season, CBS and NBC will both broadcast two Super Wild Card Weekend games while FOX and ESPN/ABC will each have one.

While Amazon is cozying up to CBS for the time being, other reports have indicated that NBC is the apple of Amazon's eye for its full-time streaming endeavor. This way, they can slowly try to convince veteran play-by-play man Al Michaels to jump ship and helm Amazon's Thursday Night Football coverage in the future.

Amazon could also fold in Peyton Manning, who has long been one of the most coveted football minds to bring into the booth, though he currently does a “Manning-cast” with his brother Eli on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

As far as this year is concerned, Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football schedule launches this week, as the Los Angeles Rams take on the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. Check out our guide on what Amazon's broadcasts will bring to football fans this season.
