Report: Peacock in Talks for Original Content From ‘Law & Order’ Producer Dick Wolf
Peacock, the forthcoming streaming service from NBCUniversal, is reportedly in talks with famed “Law & Order” producer Dick Wolf for original content after acquiring the rights to the majority of his library in January, according to Deadline.
After that acquisition, Wolf signed a deal reported to be worth nine figures with Universal Television for streaming and broadcast content, so the partnership with Peacock seems like a natural progression.
“We definitely want to do something with Dick Wolf but we haven’t landed on a specific show yet,” Bill McGoldrick, president of original content at NBCU entertainment networks and direct-to-consumer, told Deadline.
Among the options could be “Law & Order: Hate Crimes” and “New York Undercover,” Deadline reported.
“Hate Crimes” was originally booked for a 13-episode season in September 2018, but production was paused in early 2019. According to Deadline, “Law & Order: SVU” showrunner Warren Leight recently said that “Hate Crimes” would be more suited to a streaming service because of the nature of the language it includes.
“It is something we’ve talked about,” McGoldrick told Deadline.
As for a reboot of Wolf’s drama “New York Undercover” from the 1990s, Universal TV shopped around the pilot episode in 2019 without success. According to Deadline, “reviving the title has remained a priority for Wolf.”
“We are talking about various shows,” McGoldrick told Deadline when asked about the possibility of bring back “New York Undercover.” “We’re talking about revisiting IP and new shows.”
Peacock launches on July 15 with a slate of original programming and a back catalog of classic content. The service is free for Xfinity X1 and Flex users, and has tiered pricing options ranging from free to $9.99 per month for general subscribers.
