Streep, Kidman, Oldman, Ferrell to Headline Netflix’s Original Movies for 2020

Given its Oscar success with “Roma,” as well as Laura Dern’s Golden Globe best supporting actress win for “Marriage Story,” Netflix has become a contender in the production of original movies.

For 2020, Netflix has tapped numerous Hollywood A-listers. Stars Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Rachel McAdams, Gary Oldman and Will Ferrell are among those on the bill, while Oscar-winning or nominated directors include Spike Lee, Ron Howard, Charlie Kaufman and David Fincher.

So far, the streamer has mentioned 29 movies coming in 2020, though no specific dates have been announced. Last, year it debuted 47 original movies.

Some teasers for 2020: Director David Fincher’s “Mank” revolves around the writing of the classic “Citizen Kane.” Herman Mankiewicz cowrote the legendary film with Orson Welles. It stars Oldman, Amanda Seyfried, Charles Dance and Lily Collins.

Ryan Murphy directs Broadway hit musical “The Prom,” about a teenager banned from attending the dance with her girlfriend. Meryl Streep, James Corden and Nicole Kidman descend on a small Midwest town to make things right.

The rom-com front includes “To All The Boys 2: P.S. I Still Love You,” while “Crip Camp,” executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, kick-starts a revolution among kids with disabilities.

And to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, Charlie Kaufman offers tension and thrills in “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” with Toni Collette.
