Google TV Adds Mobile Remote on Android

Google TV now has support for viewers who want to use their Android mobile devices as remotes.

The feature was initially announced in May at the Google I/O event, with support specifically for Android devices. According to The Verge, nothing was shared about future iOS support for the tool.

This will be a godsend for fans who lose their remotes under pillows or magazines, but, as those who have used similar features for Amazon or Roku devices on their phones for several years now can attest, it becomes a game-changer when it comes to entering passwords or using the search function.

According to Google, beyond Google TV, support would extend to other Android TV OS devices as well.

The remote tool can be accessed by one of two ways — either by adding the remote tile to quick settings from an Android device, or through the Google TV app. According to Google, the Google TV app will be launched in 14 new countries in the coming weeks.

Similar features are available for Apple TV users who want to use their iPhones as remotes, although you cannot control the volume.
