Vudu Launches Streaming Video Store on Oculus to Bring VR Movie Experience

Fandango’s Vudu streaming service is now available on Oculus Quest 1 and 2 VR devices. This gives fans on that platform access to more than 200,000 movies and television shows to rent and buy. Many of the titles are unavailable on subscription services.

The Vudu app on Oculus makes available a theater-like audio and video experience for viewers. Without ever leaving the comfort of their Oculus VR headsets, fans are able to immerse themselves in films straight out of theaters like the recent Ryan Reynolds hit Free Guy, which is available to rent on Vudu starting on Tuesday for $5.99. Other available titles include Jungle Cruise, The Addams Family 2, F9, Black Widow, and more.

“We’re excited that Vudu will now serve as the official movie and TV store on Oculus,” said Fandango Chief Commercial Officer Kevin Shepela in a statement on Tuesday. “Fandango’s mission is to usher fans to the most moving entertainment experiences and we’re certainly able to deliver that promise with the new Vudu app on Oculus. We’re thrilled to be working with Oculus to help transport fans to new worlds in the most immersive formats available.”

Earlier this year, Fandango merged its on-demand streaming services Vudu and FandangoNow to become a larger on-demand entertainment platform. The new Vudu service is now available in more than 75 million US households according to The NPD Group. Vudu is available across a wide variety of devices including Samsung, LG and Vizio Smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex, PlayStation, Xbox, TiVo and others.
