Amazon Studios came out on top in a “competitive situation” for new mockumentary-style comedy series “Rodeo Girls” from Platform One Media in association with TeaTime Pictures, and has tabbed “Fifty Shades of Grey” lead Dakota Johnson to star and executive produce, Deadline reported Wednesday.

The series “follows an ensemble of Rodeo Queen hopefuls as they compete for the coveted crown,” according to Deadline. Johnson’s executive producer credit will come through TeaTime Pictures, her company, alongside producing partner and company co-founder Ro Donnelly, as well as Elisa Ellis (“Narcos”).

“Rodeo Girls” creator and show-runner Christy Hall is also the co-creator and executive producer of Netflix’s “I Am Not Okay With This.” “Portlandia” co-creator Carrie Brownstein will direct.

Johnson is currently acting alongside Tracee Ellis Ross in comedy “The High Note.” She also has “The Friend” with Jason Segel and Casey Affleck on the horizon, as well as “Don’t Worry, Darling” with Florence Pugh, Shia LaBeouf, Chris Pine and Olivia Wilde.

Hall is working on an adaptation of Stephen King’s psychological horror novel “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon” for Village Roadshow Pictures, Deadline reported. Brownstein most recently appeared in the Sundance film “The Nowhere Inn” and is additionally set to make her feature directorial debut in MGM’s upcoming “Fairy Godmother.”
