HBO Max Adds ‘Gossip Girl’ Spinoff to Roster of Original Series

Stephanie Sengwe

It seems like HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s long-awaited streaming service—will be launching with a bang. Not only will the service be housing old classics such as Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, it will also be premiering a ton of original series.

In addition to Dune: The Sisterhood, The Flight Attendant and Made for Love, among many more, HBO Max will also be home to a Gossip Girl spinoff series. WarnerMedia announced the purchase of 10, one-hour episodes of the show, set eight years after the original which aired on the CW from 2007 to 2012. The new series will chronicle the lives of new private school teens as they navigate the mean streets of Upper East Side New York and explore how much social media and the landscape of New York itself has changed since the original ended.

HBO Max will also be the new streaming home for all fare from The CW, which was previously housed at Netflix. The CW’s streaming deal with Netflix expired in May. Current CW series already streaming on Netflix (like Riverdale and The Flash) will continue to do so until they wrap their runs.

A price is yet to be announced for HBO Max, which is meant to be a competitor to Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus, among others.
