HBO Max Shifts Into Gear, Will Develop Stephen King and Joe Hill’s ‘Throttle’

Stephen King’s horror-fantasy-suspense books have made successful transitions to TV, such as “The Stand” and “Creepshow.”

Now, HBO Max is planning to adapt his “Throttle” novella, co-written with his son Joe Hill, reports Deadline. (Hill’s comic series “Locke & Key” runs on Netflix.)

Leigh Dana Jackson (“Raising Dion”) has been tapped to write the screenplay. She is presently adapting and executive producing FX/Fox 21’s “The Spook Who Sat By The Door” series.

The story takes its inspiration from Richard Matheson’s “Duel.” In “Throttle,” a biker gang is pitted against a faceless trucker terrorizing them along 20 miles of road in the Nevada desert. It was later adapted into a comic book from IDW Publishing.

“NOS4A2,” Hill’s second novel, was adapted into a TV series on AMC. Season two is coming next month.

Phantom Four will produce “Throttle” for the streamer. The company also has the horror picture “Antlers” and “The Night House” on its roster, as well as a reboot of “Hellraiser” for Spyglass.

King has published 50-plus books and is a legend in the horror genre. “The Shining,” “Misery” and “Pet Semetary” are among his most popular books.
