The UEFA Champions League is winding down as the semifinals are slated to begin today. Due to COVID-19, the league switched up the format of the semis and the games will be compacted into a knockout format featuring a pair of single-leg fixtures. Today’s match kicks off with Paris Saint-Germain facing off against RB Leipzig at 3 p.m. ET. Then Bayern takes on Lyon in the other semifinal match on Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.
How to Watch the 2020 UEFA Champions League Semifinals
Neither PSG nor Leipzig have ever made the finals, so today’s match is sure to be one to watch. PSG was expected to come this far, however, the team’s goalkeeper Keylor Navas won’t be playing due to a hamstring injury, so some adjustments will have to be made, CBS Sports reported. On the other hand, Leipzig has performed surprisingly well this go-round, delivering a stunning 2-1 upset that knocked out Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals.
Outside of the Champions League’s new format, there was also a bit of turmoil behind-the-scenes in terms of distribution for the games. In July, Turner Sports threw the world for a loop when it relinquished its rights for Champions League matches prematurely, according to Sporting News.
Their deal was meant to expire in 2021, which is when CBS was to take over. However, after the change of heart, CBS decided to take over the distribution and broadcast the majority of the tournament on CBS All Access. None of the semifinals will be on CBS Spors Network Sporting News reported, except for the final on Aug. 23.
