“Survivor” returns for another nail-biting season with a two-hour premiere starting tonight at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. The show will commemorate its monumental 40th season by bringing back 20 legendary winners.

The show’s 40th season is titled “Survivor: Winners at War.” It will see the return of 20 legendary competitors as they face off against each other and nature. Since its premiere back in May of 2000, “Survivor” has seen 600 castaways compete, but only 38 have claimed the title of Sole Survivor. Sandra Diaz-Twine has been the only castaway to earn the title on two separate seasons.
“For the 20th anniversary edition of the groundbreaking reality series, Survivor: Winners at War unites the most memorable, heroic, and celebrated champions from the past two decades in the biggest battle in the show’s history, as the series’ best strategists of all time fight to earn the title of Sole Survivor again, not to mention an increased prize of $2 million, the largest jackpot in reality show history,” CBS stated.
In addition to competing in weekly challenges, this season will see the return of Edge of Extinction — a twist that allows voted out players a chance to come back and compete. The show is also introducing fire tokens, which will serve as “currency on the island and add more complexity to the already intense battle.” Tokens will allow competitors to buy advantages to stay in the game or buy their way back into the game.
