Lin-Manuel Miranda Releases His Disney Plus Watchlist

In a world where there are thousands of movies and TV shows to watch on a slew of platforms, streaming fatigue is a real thing. Thankfully, Lin-Manuel Miranda is here to help. For those who have watched “Hamilton” the film once or seven times and are looking for something else, the writer/actor has curated a list just for you.

In an Instagram post earlier today, Disney+ released Miranda’s watchlist, full of old classics and new faves. The list includes gems such “The Little Mermaid,” “Moana,” “Black Panther,” “Ducktales,” “Toy Story” and more, all available to stream right now.

“Hamilton” the film premiered on Disney+ on July 3, two weeks after Disney+ announced they would no longer be offering free trials for new subscribers. The show was written by Miranda, who also produced the show along with Jeffrey Seller and Thomas Kail, the director of the film. In addition to the 11 Tony Awards, the musical has also garnered a Grammy Award, Olivier Award and Pulitzer Prize.

The film was a major win for Disney+, whose app downloads in the U.S. were up 72.4 percent higher during its premiere weekend. The app was downloaded 513,323 times globally, including 266,084 times in the U.S., Apptopia revealed. Since the service is available through pre-existing apps in India and in Japan, those numbers were not included in the global sum. Also not factored in were numbers from people who may have signed up for the service online and through smart TVs and didn’t download the app.

Miranda also debuted “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme” on Hulu after having postponed the film mere days before it was originally planned to debut. The documentary showcases Freestyle Love Supreme — the performance group comprised of Miranda and his friends/longtime collaborators — long before their “In the Heights” and “Hamilton” fame.

The film follows the group as they put together “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme,” an off-Broadway show they used to perform before they made their way to the main stages of Broadway.
