Netflix Drops Teaser Trailer for ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4, Cancels ‘Insatiable’

“Stranger Things” fans have cause to celebrate. Not only is the Netflix show back in production for a fourth season, but police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour), presumed dead at the end of season three, will also return, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, who created the science fiction-horror series, made the announcement official today. (They also wrote and directed the horror film “Hidden.”)

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on ‘Stranger Things 4’ is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper,” they revealed in a message written to fans “from Russia with love.”

However, the brothers added Hopper is “imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human … and other. Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything …”

To augment the Hopper news, Netflix released a teaser trailer for season 4.

“Stranger Things,” which debuted its first season in July 2016, is set in Indiana in the ’80s and deals with supernatural events. The series also stars Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard.

The cast has earned individual awards, but the series’ first-season cast won the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.

THR also reported that Netflix has canceled the revenge comedy “Insatiable” after two seasons. Netflix picked up the series in August 2018, which starred Alyssa Milano (“Hall Pass,” “Melrose Place”) and Debby Ryan.

The series’ first season was about a girl who lost 70 pounds, became a beauty pageant queen and takes revenge on anyone who wronged her. “Insatiable” did incur some controversy about the dangers of diet culture.

Other one- or two-season shows the streamer has nixed recently include “Spinning Out,” “The OA” and the revival of “Mystery Science Theater 3000.”
