T-Mobile to Offer Quibi to Un-Carrier Customers Free for a Full Year

It looks like Quibi is taking a page out of the Apple and Disney playbooks as the streamer struck a deal to offer their service for free to T-Mobile customers. An announcement today from the telecom giant revealed that when Quibi launches on April 6, their un-carrier customers will see the service included in their Magenta family plans free of charge for a full year.

A free subscription is available for T-Mobile customers who have two or more voice lines at standard rates on Magenta and One plans with taxes and fees included — along with discounted First Responder, Military and Magenta Plus 55 plans — or small business customers with up to 12 lines. Customers simply signup at mytmobile.com and the offer is valid until July 7.

“After a full year of Quibi on Us and Netflix on Us, customers can choose to continue with one or the other,” T-Mobile said in a statement.

In addition, T-Mobile and Quibi are allowing customers to sign up in the T-Mobile Tuesdays app for Android or iOS for early access to three bonus episodes of the new Jennifer Lopez series, “Thanks a Million,” until April 3. This means customers have access to six episodes when Quibi launches on April 6.

“T-Mobile customers have always been ahead of the curve –- streaming more data, watching more mobile video –- so when we first heard about Quibi, we knew our customers would love it,” said Mike Sievert, president and CEO of T-Mobile. “And, with more of us staying home right now, Quibi’s never been more needed. It comes on the scene with a totally different experience, made for mobile, quick to watch and as entertaining as anything you’ve ever seen!”

Meg Whitman, CEO of Quibi, added: “Since Quibi is built for an optimal mobile experience, we chose T-Mobile as our exclusive wireless launch partner. With the only nationwide 5G network, T-Mobile was the obvious choice for our customers.”

Quibi, designed for mobile phones, is led by founder Jeffrey Katzenberg and Whitman. It was originally conceived to fill those in-between moments, standing in line, etc. But given the health crisis facing the world with streamers in high demand because of social distancing, its debut may be watched more intently.

Short- and long-form originals, most under 10 minutes, will include content from Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Ritchie and Steven Soderbergh, among others. A full list of launch titles is here.

Quibi offers two versions: Ad-free for $7.99 and $4.99 for those who accept pre-roll ads.
